but looking at the Scarlet it doesnt really look like there is much manual control… they might have just thrown a shitload of resolution at the thing

I mean $6,000. Apparently the Scarlet is suppose to be between $3,000-$5,000. The Panasonic HVX is now between $4,000-6,000 depending on which package you get.

Come on… “Resolution matters!”. Other digital movie cameras that is already used in big budget Hollywood productions has around 2k resolution and are deemed to have better picture than the red one. Sure not in resolution but still. The only places where i can see the resolution having a big effect is green screen filming where the sharper edge of the subject is important. I mean i love what red is doing bringing “digital film” to the masses but come on…

yeah it’s easy to see the scarlett blows everything out of the water.. or WILL anyway if it’s anything like the ONE.. I dont care, I’ll be making movies with my HVX for another 5 years.. I hope P2 cards get cheaper..

ohhh what a pity! ohhh no I’m so sad for them! shut up I hate hearing people say that everyone who uses RED’s are just geeks who dont understand, and wont understand scripting, acting, lighting, and camera angles/techniques.. what I think will happen is the RED will inspire people who dont understand that stuff to really look into it and take their videos seriously, breeding a huge generation of moviemakers! Suck it! RED WILL TAKE OVER THE WORLD!! lol beam me up scotty!

I was fixed on getting the HVX200A/B but when I found out about the red scarlett today i said frigg it! Im going for the Red scarlet. Mainly cause Im fresh outta New York Film Academy and when I graduated they had just introduced the red one class so I sort of missed out.

I want to buy a XHA1, but you also want good DoF, so most people buy a 35mm adapter which cost $1000+ then you need 35mm lens(unless you have them of course)which is $1000+ for a set of good/decent lens(also good to have monitor another 800-1k), that’s $5000(5,800-6k w/ monitor) for 1/3 inch full HD DoF(real DoF) now the Scarlet is just the “brains” for $3k, so a built 1 would be $5-6kish maybe 7? for 3/4 chip 3k vs. $5-6k tricked xha1 is that right?

I believe the Red Scarlet comes in 4 different flavors and 2 of those flavors are sensors that are larger than the 2/3 chips. Check out their site for more info. peace
